DIRECTORS NOTES
I am so incredibly fortunate to be able to have access to resources that help me create the art that I want to make. With this short film, I approached it as a project to not only strengthen my portfolio, but to use it as practice for figuring out ways to pivot creative ideas when original plans do not work out. This film is recognizes and sheds light onto the idea of mourning the loss of a loved one. Most people think the stages of grief occur chronologically, when in reality it feel more of like a whirlwind. I’ve decided to name this work “DEATH RATTLE” for two reasons. The deliberate use of sound in this film, and how one can be reminded of a passed loved one in any given moment. These moments, which we all will inevitably encounter, can be profoundly unsettling and evoke a sense of fear; much like experiencing an actual death rattle.
Needless to say, this project was incredibly challenging to make as I had been tasked with writing, shooting, directing and acting in this all by myself. This can sometimes make the creative control over a project very limited, but I think this played to my benefit because it caused me to utilize more creative skills to achieve the final result.
I am so incredibly proud of how this project turned out and I am even more elated to share it with you.
THE MARIONETTE
SYNOPSIS
Following her acceptance of an invitation for a sleepover from her lifelong friend, Jordan, Sarah stumbles upon the remnants of an ancient marionette concealed within her yard. The gravity of her findings proves overwhelming for Jordan, leading to his hasty departure and leaving Sarah to confront the situation unaided. Swiftly, Sarah grasps the profound implications of her unwitting actions and senses the urgency in her quest to reverse the course of events, aware that time is slipping away.

Flora
Over the past two years, I kept voice notes of my melodic and poetic elements and ideas. Listening back to these voice notes, I found that even years layer, I related to a the majority of struggles I encounters long ago. I needed to find a way to put my frustrations and anger into an entity greater than myself; and over the course of many sleepless nights, I found that I kept writing and writing and writing. And this record came to fruition very quickly and honestly out of nowhere. And I find it really beautiful how inspiring sour situations can be, and how easily art can be created through those painful situations.This album means so much to me because it’s a culmination of my experiences over the past few years. It portrays my experiences coming to terms with who I am as a person, and my outlook on the world. I decided to title this work “Flora” because of how this album reflects my outlook on life and how it’s changed over the years. I thought it was a very poetic name because it reflects the organic nature of how everyone walks the same paths in life. As well as how time can move so fast and how that can leave you feeling so pathetic and unprepared for life; but it also alludes to overcoming that and finding a new and healthy headspace.
Nonetheless, I am so eternally grateful and proud of this project and how it encapsulates this turning point in my life, And I’m even more thrilled to share it with you.
